Great Falls woman’s 1940s kitchen gets big update

Before Kimberly Ulsh remodeled her kitchen, cooking was a nightmare.

The cabinets were original to the house, which was built in the 1940s, and many of the drawers were broken and missing. So when a pipe burst in her laundry room and ruined the wall behind her kitchen cabinets, Ulsh decided to take the opportunity to give her kitchen an overhaul.

Ulsh worked with Kathy Crowe, a kitchen and bath designer at Johnson Madison Lumber in Great Falls. Crowe came to her home and examined the kitchen. She gave Ulsh several layouts to choose from, working with her to make sure the small space was used the most efficiently while giving her the look she desired.

“It was a bizarre looking kitchen in a very pretty cottage-style home. There were stencils glued on painted bright blue cabinets,” Crowe said. “It was one of the worst kitchens I’d seen and was in desperate need of an update.”
